What is the Tourniquet Strap System in the AFAK?

The Tourniquet Strap System is a TacMed Solutions innovation that secures the SOF® Tourniquet to the exterior of the AFAK pouch for immediate one-handed access. It allows the tourniquet to be deployed without opening the kit — the most critical and time-sensitive intervention in extremity hemorrhage — while the rest of the kit contents remain organized and sealed.

Should I choose the w/Quickclot or No Quickclot version?

Choose the w/Quickclot version if you anticipate high-threat scenarios involving gunshot wounds to junctional or non-extremity locations where a tourniquet cannot be applied. QuikClot® hemostatic gauze is CoTCCC-recommended for these wounds. The No Quickclot version is appropriate for lower-threat environments or when hemostatic gauze is already carried separately.

Is the AFAK MOLLE-compatible?

Yes. The TacMed™ AFAK features MOLLE/PALS-compatible webbing and belt-mount capability, allowing attachment to plate carriers, tactical vests, backpacks, and duty belts. It is available in four colors (Black, OD, Coyote Tan, Multicam) to match standard military and law enforcement gear configurations.

What are the dimensions of the AFAK?

The AFAK measures 6.5"H × 4.5"W × 3"D — a compact footprint that fits on most plate carriers and vests without excessive bulk. It is designed to provide operational completeness without sacrificing mobility.

Is the AFAK CoTCCC-compliant?

The AFAK contains multiple CoTCCC-recommended components: the SOF® Tourniquet is CoTCCC-recommended, and the QuikClot® hemostatic option (w/Quickclot version) is CoTCCC-recommended for wound packing. CoTCCC recommends individual devices rather than kit assemblies, but the AFAK was designed to align with TCCC care protocols.

Can the AFAK be mounted without body armor?

Yes. The removable insert with optional lanyard allows the AFAK to be carried in a small-of-the-back placement with positive retention when body armor is not worn — providing self-aid capability for operators in plain-clothes configurations, off-duty carry, or situations where full plate carrier use is inappropriate. This is a specific design requirement for operators who transition between uniformed and plainclothes environments.

Does the AFAK include a tourniquet staging system?

Yes. The AFAK includes the SOF Tourniquet with an integrated Tourniquet Strap System that is fully adaptive for both vertical and horizontal placement. The strap system enables the operator to configure tourniquet access based on their preferred hand and kit layout — a capability absent from standard IFAK designs that store the tourniquet inside the pouch body.

What injuries does the AFAK address?

The AFAK's six-item selection targets the three primary preventable causes of traumatic death: extremity hemorrhage (SOF Tourniquet), penetrating chest trauma (Beacon Chest Seal), and airway obstruction (28F Nasopharyngeal Airway with lubricant). The OLAES Modular Bandage addresses wound packing and pressure dressing. Trauma Shears enable gear removal for wound access. This selection mirrors the TCCC MARCH algorithm priorities in the smallest viable individual kit footprint.
