PRODUCT INFORMATION
POW Pressure On Wounds · Finger Pressure Strip
POW Pressure Strips for Fingers — 3-Pack
A 4.5 in. × 1.5 in. adhesive strip with a small rigid pressure dome sized for a finger. Set the dome on the cut, wrap one arm around the finger, then the other, and adjust the tension — the dome keeps pressure on the wound, so you are not squeezing a fingertip with your other hand. Three sterile, individually packaged strips.

A cut finger is the most ordinary bleed there is — and the one that ties up your other hand. This one gives it back.

8 things to know about POW Finger Pressure Strips

How a dome helps on a finger, how to put it on, and when a cut finger needs more than a strip.

  1. 01

A pressure dressing built for a finger

A finger is small, round and always moving; a flat adhesive bandage lies across the curve and soaks through. POW's finger strip is 4.5 in. × 1.5 in. with long arms that wrap all the way around and a dome sized for a finger wound.5,6

  2. 02

The dome puts the pressure on the cut

POW's structural pressure dome concentrates force on the wound instead of spreading it around the finger.4 The same principle — a rigid element under a wrap — raised pressure directly under the pressure bar of the Emergency Bandage without raising it elsewhere.7

  3. 03

    Two arms, adjustable tension

The package directions: place the pressure point directly on the wound, secure the first arm, then secure the second arm, adjusting the tension to raise or lower the pressure.5

  4. 04

    Adhesive and breathable

POW describes the strips as giving strong compression with secure adhesion, in a breathable, skin-friendly material, with a long wraparound design that stays in place through daily activity.6

  5. 05

    Watch the fingertip

A finger has a small blood supply and shows over-tightening fast. If the tip turns pale, blue or cold, or goes numb or tingly, loosen the strip right away.4

  6. 06

When a cut finger needs more than a strip

POW directs a 911 call or an emergency room for bleeding that is severe, rapid or arterial, or that has not stopped after several minutes of firm pressure.4 A fingertip amputation, or a finger that will not bend or feel normally after the cut, also needs an emergency department.

  7. 07

    Sterile, sealed, chemical-free

Each strip is sterilized by ethylene oxide and sealed in its own pouch; there is no hemostatic agent — the dome and the tension do the work.5,6

  8. 08

Where it sits in the kit

One step above the adhesive bandage, and nowhere near the job of a tourniquet. POW's scope for every strip and wrap is temporary first aid for minor to moderate bleeding of the limbs and extremities.4

How to apply a POW finger strip

The package directions, with the first-aid steps around them.

  1. 1
Press first. Firm direct pressure on the cut with clean gauze or cloth is always the first step.10
  2. 2
Check the size. The dome must be larger than the wound. A longer cut takes the 2 × 5 in. strip.4
  3. 3
Place the dome. Set the pressure point directly on the wound.5
  4. 4
Secure the first arm. Wrap and stick the first arm around the finger in the direction you choose.5
  5. 5
Secure the second arm. Wrap the second arm and adjust the tension to raise or lower the pressure.5
  6. 6
Check the fingertip. Pale, blue, cold, numb or tingling: loosen it at once.4
  7. 7
Decide on care. Still bleeding after several minutes of firm pressure, spurting, or a fingertip lost: emergency room.4 If blood seeps through a strip on a superficial cut, leave it and add gauze and pressure on top.4
Know the next step up. A finger rarely needs anything stronger than firm pressure and a good dressing. Bleeding that soaks through, spurts or will not stop is a 911 call — not a reason to keep adding strips.

Where it fits

Use it for
  • Finger cuts and lacerations smaller than the dome4
  • Kitchen, shop and job-site kits where a cut finger is a weekly event
  • Keeping pressure on a finger so both hands are free3
Not for
  • Severe, rapid or spurting bleeding — call 9114
  • Cuts longer than the dome — use the 2 × 5 in. strip4
  • The neck, trunk or head4
  • Life-threatening limb bleeding — that needs a tourniquet1

The evidence

None of these studies tested a POW strip. They test the dome principle and pressure dressings in general.

Study Evidence type What was studied What it found
Shipman & Lessard, Mil Med 20097 Pressure measurement Emergency Bandage with and without its pressure bar; sensors under the bar and around the bandage The pressure bar raised pressure directly under it without raising it elsewhere under the bandage
Brauckmann et al., Eur J Trauma Emerg Surg 20268 Simulation · pressure sensors 116 pressure-dressing applications by emergency providers over calibrated sensors Providers' own sense of how tight they had wrapped did not correlate with measured pressure
Charlton et al., Prehosp Emerg Care 20219 Systematic review 107 studies of bleeding-control methods available to first aid providers Direct manual compression reached hemostasis faster than pressure dressings or devices; certainty very low
AHA & American Red Cross, Circulation 202410 Expert guideline 2024 Guidelines for First Aid — bleeding Direct pressure first for life-threatening bleeding, followed by a tourniquet or wound packing if the location allows

Hands on the wound remain the fastest way to stop bleeding; a strip's value is holding that pressure when your hands are needed. Check the fingertip rather than trusting your sense of tightness.

Questions buyers ask

▾How big a cut will it cover?

The dome must be larger than the wound.4 If the cut runs past the dome, step up to the 2 × 5 in. strip with its 1 in. dome.3

▾How tight should it be?

Firm enough to hold pressure on the cut, never so tight the fingertip turns pale, blue or cold, or goes numb or tingly — loosen it if it does.4

▾Blood is seeping through. Do I take it off?

On a superficial cut, POW's instruction is to leave it in place and add gauze and manual pressure on top.4 Bleeding that keeps soaking through after several minutes of firm pressure needs an emergency room.4

▾When does a cut finger need the emergency room?

Severe, rapid or spurting bleeding, or bleeding that has not stopped after several minutes of firm pressure.4 Also a partial or complete fingertip amputation, a deep cut, or a finger that will not bend or feel normally.

▾Is it sterile?

Yes — each strip is sterilized by ethylene oxide and sealed in its own pouch.5 Single use.

▾Can I use it somewhere other than a finger?

It is sized for fingers. POW's strips and wraps are for the limbs and extremities only — never the neck, trunk or head.4 A hand or wrist cut takes the 2 × 5 in. strip.

▾Does it contain a clotting agent?

No. POW describes the line as chemical-free; the dome and the tension do the work.6
