What is the difference between the SnakeStaff ETQ Gen 2 Standard and the Wide?

The primary difference is band width: the Standard uses a 1" band while the Wide uses a 1.5" Mil-Spec 4088 band. Both use identical Gen 2 engineering features (Power Curve™ slot, Tri-Grip Windlass™, Power Ring™) and are made in the USA. The 1" Standard is the most compact for true pocket/EDC carry. The 1.5" Wide provides greater pressure distribution over a larger surface area, performs better on larger adult limbs, and matches the band width of the C-A-T Gen 7 and SOF-T® for users who want band-width consistency between their EDC and primary duty tourniquets.

Is the ETQ Gen 2 Wide CoTCCC recommended?

The SnakeStaff ETQ Gen 2 Wide is not currently on the CoTCCC recommended list for primary limb tourniquets. It is designed as a high-quality everyday carry and backup tourniquet. For professional and agency use requiring CoTCCC-recommended status, the C-A-T Gen 7, SAM XT, SOF-T Wide, or TX series are the appropriate primary choices. The ETQ Wide is a strong complement to these devices — always available even when a full IFAK is not immediately accessible.

What is Mil-Spec 4088 webbing?

MIL-SPEC T-4088 (Military Specification, Tape, Nylon, Webbing) is a U.S. military material standard specifying strength, width tolerance, elongation, UV resistance, and chemical resistance requirements for nylon webbing used in military applications. Webbing meeting this standard is tested and certified to maintain structural integrity under the stresses of field use including UV exposure, temperature extremes, moisture, and abrasion. Using Mil-Spec 4088 webbing ensures the ETQ Wide's band meets the same material standard used in military tourniquet procurement.

Why does the Wide version weigh more than the Standard?

The ETQ Gen 2 Wide weighs approximately 6 oz vs. 4 oz for the Standard primarily because of the wider (1.5") and longer band material, as well as the reinforced backing layer that gives it rigidity during application. The Mil-Spec 4088 webbing at 1.5" width has more material mass per linear inch than the 1" standard webbing. The windlass body is also slightly larger to accommodate the wider band slot. Despite the weight difference, both versions remain compact enough for pocket and EDC carry.

Is the Blue ETQ Gen 2 Wide for training only?

By convention, blue is the industry-standard color designation for training tourniquets across most manufacturers. The Blue ETQ Gen 2 Wide is constructed identically to the Grey and Orange operational versions — it is a fully functional tourniquet. It is designated blue to serve as a dedicated training unit, protecting operational devices from wear during practice sessions, and to enable rapid visual identification of training vs. duty equipment. In a genuine emergency, a Blue ETQ Wide is capable of providing effective hemorrhage control.
