What makes the ROO M-FAK different from the standard M-FAK?
The ROO M-FAK adds a dedicated front tourniquet pouch to the M-FAK platform. This pouch holds the C-A-T® in a deployment-ready position and opens with a single tab pull, allowing one-handed tourniquet access without ever opening the main kit. The standard M-FAK opens from the side in a clamshell configuration, requiring both hands to access the tourniquet. If fastest possible tourniquet deployment is the priority, the ROO configuration is the superior choice.
Can the C-A-T® in the ROO M-FAK be used as a true one-handed tourniquet?
Yes. The C-A-T® (Combat Application Tourniquet®) is specifically designed and CoTCCC-recommended for one-handed self-application to the arm or leg. The ROO M-FAK's front pouch positions the tourniquet so that opening the tab and retrieving the C-A-T® is achievable with a single hand. The C-A-T® Gen 7's windlass mechanism and free-moving internal band are designed to work with one hand in both upper and lower extremity application.
What is the difference between the three ROO M-FAK configurations?
The Basic Life Support configuration includes a C-A-T® tourniquet, 4 in. Flat ETD™, S-rolled gauze, HyFin® Vent Compact Chest Seal twin pack, and nitrile gloves. The Basic Life Support w/Hemostatic version adds Combat Gauze® LE, a CoTCCC-recommended kaolin-based hemostatic dressing for wound packing. The Advanced Life Support configuration additionally includes a 28F nasopharyngeal airway with lubricant and an ARS® 10-gauge needle decompression kit for trained personnel managing airway and tension pneumothorax.
How does the ROO M-FAK mount to a duty belt?
The ROO M-FAK supports two mounting orientations. Vertical MOLLE mounting uses the MOLLE-compatible backing to attach to any plate carrier or tactical vest with PALS webbing. Horizontal belt mounting uses a 3-inch internal sleeve to slide over a standard duty belt, orienting the front tourniquet pouch for direct belt-level access. When mounted horizontally, the front tourniquet pull-tab faces the operator for instant one-handed retrieval.
Is the ROO M-FAK compatible with NAR Quick Detach Panels?
Yes. Like other NAR M-FAK platforms, the ROO M-FAK is compatible with North American Rescue Quick Detach Panels (sold separately). Quick Detach Panels enable pre-staging the kit on a separate surface for rapid handoff to a casualty or buddy-care provider in mass casualty or CCP scenarios.
Does the ROO M-FAK Kit include CoTCCC-recommended items?
Yes. The kit is built around CoTCCC-recommended components for the top three preventable causes of traumatic death. Specific contents should be verified against the current product listing.
What training is recommended to carry the ROO M-FAK Kit?
Minimum: TCCC Combat Lifesaver (CLS) or equivalent. Providers carrying the NPA or chest seal should have provider-level training.
Does the M-FAK Kit include a tourniquet?
Yes. The ROO M-FAK Kit includes a CoTCCC-recommended C-A-T® tourniquet as the primary extremity hemorrhage control device.
What is the NSN or procurement path for the ROO M-FAK Kit?
Available through MED-TAC International. DoD and agency procurement can reference NAR's GSA contract vehicles; contact NAR or MED-TAC for current NSN/contract status.
Can the M-FAK Kit be restocked after use?
Yes. Each component can be individually replaced through MED-TAC's hemorrhage control and chest/thoracic collections.
