Slishman Pressure Wrap

A one-ounce elastic compression wrap with a red slip-sleeve cinch that forms a lasso — you drop it over the limb and pull once to set tension — and spaced hook-and-loop tabs that tack each turn so the wrap cannot unwind. Designed by an emergency physician. It fits an adult, a child or a K9 limb, and it is not a tourniquet.

The manufacturer is explicit on scope: this is a pressure and compression wrap, not a limb tourniquet. For definitive control of arterial limb hemorrhage, a CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquet remains the primary device. Carry the wrap alongside a tourniquet, not instead of one.

Can the Slishman Pressure Wrap replace a tourniquet for arterial bleeding?

The Slishman Pressure Wrap can achieve arterial occlusion sufficient to eliminate a distal pulse when applied tightly with correct technique — demonstrated in video by Dr. Slishman himself on adult arms and legs. However, it is not CoTCCC-recommended as a primary combat tourniquet and should not replace a dedicated windlass tourniquet (such as the C-A-T Gen 7 or SAM XT) in kits where extremity arterial hemorrhage is the primary threat. The SPW's greatest value is as a multi-purpose tool: a pressure dressing, compression bandage, or splint-securement device for the wide range of bleeding injuries that do not require tourniquet-level intervention, while remaining capable of tourniquet function when needed.

What is the red slip sleeve on the Slishman Pressure Wrap and how does it work?

The red slip sleeve is a fabric ring that slides freely along the full length of the elastic wrap. When the loop end is placed over an injured limb, the red sleeve is pulled downward (toward the injury) along the wrap to constrict the lasso opening tightly around the limb — similar to how a slip knot works. This cinching step sets the baseline compression diameter before the user begins wrapping. It is the core mechanical differentiator between the SPW and conventional elastic bandages, which rely on constant tension and frictional wrap resistance that can slip or unravel under stress.

Who can apply the Slishman Pressure Wrap — does it require medical training?

The SPW is designed for application by anyone from trained medics to untrained bystanders and even pediatric patients for self-aid on small injuries. Minimal fine motor dexterity is required — the loop, cinch, and wrap sequence is intuitive and the hook-and-loop tabs prevent the wrap from unwinding if a turn is missed or the user fumbles. Dr. Slishman designed it specifically because most real bleeding emergencies in civilian and tactical environments are managed by non-medics, and the device should not require training that most responders haven't received.

Is the Slishman Pressure Wrap suitable for children and animals?

Yes. The SPW's elastic wrap conforms to any limb size and shape — adult, pediatric, and veterinary/K9. The lasso cinch can be tightened to any diameter, and the elastic adjusts to the limb circumference as it wraps, making it effective on the narrow forearms of children or the irregular limb geometry of dogs and other animals.
