TacMed Control Wraps
Elastic compression bandages with built-in anti-unroll “brakes” — 4" and 6".
What are TacMed Control Wraps? Elastic compression bandages engineered by Tactical Medical Solutions® with built-in adhesive “brakes” that prevent accidental unrolling during application. Available in 4" (SKU CW4) and 6" (SKU CW6), they provide grip surfaces for pressure maintenance and stable angle changes — a critical supporting bandage for trauma dressing systems including the OLAES® and BLAST® bandages.

What It Is
The TacMed™ Control Wrap addresses one of the most frequently overlooked failure points in field trauma care: a bandage that unrolls itself during application. Standard elastic bandages are unreliable under stress — during angle changes, patient movement, or one-handed application, the roll can slip, contaminating a clean bandage and wasting critical seconds. Drawing on the same engineering used in their OLAES® and BLAST® bandages, Tactical Medical Solutions® integrated a series of adhesive “brakes” directly into the elastic weave to eliminate this failure mode.
The brake system: adhesive brakes are positioned at intervals along the elastic material and serve two functions at once — (1) they mechanically lock the roll in place if it is accidentally released during application, preventing unwinding; and (2) they create tactile grip surfaces that let the provider maintain controlled tension while changing application angles, which matters when wrapping awkward sites like the shoulder, axilla, or groin under stress.
The Control Wrap is a universal supporting bandage designed to work alongside primary hemostatic and pressure dressings. After a primary wound dressing is applied (such as a hemostatic bandage or pressure dressing), the Control Wrap secures and maintains pressure without continuous manual holding or tape — particularly valuable in self-aid where one hand may be occupied or injured. The 4" suits extremity wounds and smaller areas; the 6" provides broader coverage for larger surfaces, junctional areas, and torso application.
Benefits of the Anti-Unroll Design
By preventing accidental unrolling, the Control Wrap eliminates the risks that compromise trauma care under stress:
- Contaminating a clean bandage by contact with wound, ground, or other surfaces.
- Wasting a bandage to contamination and needing a replacement.
- Lost time recovering loose ends and restarting the wrap.
- Loss of applied pressure when the bandage shifts after application.
Operating Notes
- Apply the primary dressing (e.g., emergency bandage, OLAES®, QuikClot gauze) on the wound before using the Control Wrap.
- The brakes grip automatically if the roll is accidentally released, holding it in position between wraps.
- The brake surfaces provide grip reference points at each layer, supporting consistent pressure when changing direction or angle.
- Angle and direction changes during wrapping do not risk unrolling — an advantage over standard elastic bandages.
- Finish with the terminal clip, tuck, or tape; document time of application on the dressing or casualty card.
When to Choose 4" vs. 6"
| 4" — Best For | 6" — Best For |
|---|---|
| Arm and forearm wounds | Thigh and upper-leg wounds |
| Lower leg and ankle | Abdominal and torso dressing retention |
| Head and scalp wounds | Shoulder and chest wall |
| Pediatric extremities | Larger-habitus extremity wraps |
| Supplemental wrapping for IFAKs | Casualty throw kits and mass-casualty supplies |
Used in TacMed™ ARK Throw Kits: the 4" Control Wrap is the wrap of choice in the TacMed™ ARK Casualty Throw Kit — the pre-packed casualty aid pack distributed during active-threat responses. Its anti-unroll design makes it deployable by untrained bystanders following basic written instructions, reducing the complexity of hemorrhage control in mass-casualty scenarios.
