Is the TacMed LAPD Kit authorized for use by all LAPD and LA County law enforcement?

Yes. The TacMed™ LAPD Kit was designed to LAPD specifications and is authorized for use by all Los Angeles County Law Enforcement Agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department and the LA Sheriff's Department. It is TacMed's approved kit for this jurisdiction.

What is the difference between the 1.5" and 2" strap versions?

Both versions are functionally identical in kit contents and features. The difference is the belt attachment strap width: the 1.5" strap (MEDTAC0409) fits narrower belts, while the 2" strap (MEDTAC0410) accommodates wider duty belts. Both include an adjustable strap and a black D ring for a rapid attachment point.

Can the LAPD Kit be used without a tourniquet pouch?

Yes. The LAPD Kit attaches directly to the officer's belt and includes the SOF® Tourniquet within the kit itself. When paired with a separate tourniquet pouch, the lower portion of the kit detaches to provide modular capability with the tourniquet separately accessible on the belt.

Is the SOF® Tourniquet in the LAPD Kit CoTCCC-recommended?

Yes. The SOF® Tourniquet by Tactical Medical Solutions is CoTCCC-recommended for extremity hemorrhage control and is one of two CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquets, alongside the C-A-T®.

Is the LAPD Kit available in other colors?

What is the detachable lower section on the LAPD Kit?

The TacMed™ LAPD Kit is divided into two sections: an upper tourniquet holder and a lower medical pouch. The lower section detaches from the upper via an integrated buckle system, allowing the officer to use just the tourniquet holder on the belt during routine patrol and attach the full lower medical section when moving to a critical incident or active-threat call. This modular design is unique to the LAPD Kit among TacMed belt kits.

What are the contents of the TacMed™ LAPD Kit?

The TacMed™ LAPD Kit contains: 1× SOF® Tactical Tourniquet Wide (SOFTT-W), 1× OLAES® 4" Modular Bandage, 1× FoxSeal Chest Seal (single or dual, depending on configuration), 1× 5.5" Trauma Shears (TS5), 1× Surgical Tape 2", and 1 PR Nitrile Gloves. This loadout covers the three leading causes of preventable traumatic death in law enforcement: extremity hemorrhage (SOFTT-W), wound packing/pressure dressing (OLAES), and penetrating chest trauma (FoxSeal).

How does the LAPD Kit attach to the duty belt?

The LAPD Kit is worn on the leg and attaches directly to the officer's duty belt, or to a tourniquet pouch worn on the belt. When worn with the tourniquet pouch, the detachable lower portion of the LAPD Kit provides additional medical capabilities when needed while keeping the tourniquet available for instant access on the officer's belt. Available in 1.5" (MEDTAC0409) and 2" (MEDTAC0410) belt strap sizes to fit standard and heavy-duty belt configurations.

Why did LAPD choose this kit?

In 2014, the Los Angeles Police Department issued the TacMed™ LAPD Kit to all officers as part of a major first-responder trauma preparedness initiative — approximately 8,000 kits total. The kit was selected because it provides the maximum flexibility while keeping critical equipment on the provider: the tourniquet is instantly accessible from the tourniquet holder section, and the lower medical section detaches for situations requiring more than tourniquet-only care. All officers received training alongside the kit issuance.
