M2 Ratcheting Medical Tourniquet® (RMT) — 2 in. Wide

A ratcheting limb tourniquet with no windlass rod: a 2 in. (50 mm) Coyote webbing band feeds through a 1 in. self-locking ratcheting buckle and ladder strap, so every click of applied pressure is held independently rather than depending on a rod staying seated. Each increment is audible and tactile. Two-step instructions are printed on the webbing itself, and the band folds down for staging.

Why choose the M2 RMT 2-inch Wide over the 1.5-inch Tactical version?

The 2" Wide RMT distributes occlusive pressure over a larger surface area (50 mm vs. 38 mm), which reduces the force per square centimeter needed to achieve arterial occlusion and decreases the risk of localized ischemic nerve injury — particularly relevant in prolonged field care situations where a tourniquet may be in place for an extended period. The tradeoff is a slightly heavier and larger packaged footprint (5 oz vs. 2.9 oz; 5.25" × 2" vs. 4.75" × 1.5"). Operators prioritizing patient comfort and prolonged wear benefit most from the 2" Wide version.

Is the M2 RMT 2-inch Wide CoTCCC recommended?

The m2 Ratcheting Medical Tourniquet series is not currently on the CoTCCC's formal recommended list for extremity tourniquets, which includes the C-A-T Gen 7, SAM XT, SOF-T Wide, and TX series among others. However, ratcheting strap tourniquet technology has shown strong performance data in comparative studies, and the RMT has been commercially available and in active use since 2002. MED-TAC stocks it as a proven ratchet-mechanism alternative. Buyers requiring strictly CoTCCC-listed devices should consider the TX3 3" Ratchet Tourniquet.

Can two M2 RMT 2-inch Wide tourniquets be linked for large-circumference patients?

Yes. The m2® RMT system is designed to allow two units to be coupled together for patients with very large limb circumferences or for applications where a single tourniquet's strap length is insufficient. This is a documented feature of the RMT line, enabling the system to address the full spectrum of adult limb sizes, including bariatric patients, without requiring a separate XL tourniquet product.

Why is the M2 RMT 2-inch only available in Coyote Tan for the tactical market?

The Coyote Tan (tan) colorway was selected for the tactical version because it blends with standard military and law enforcement kit color schemes. Civilian versions of the RMT are available in high-visibility colors (Red, Yellow) to enable rapid identification in public-access bleeding control kits. The tactical market version prioritizes low-profile integration into existing load-bearing systems where high-visibility colors could compromise operational security.

How does the M2 RMT 2-inch Wide compare to the TX3 3-inch Ratchet Tourniquet?

Both are ratchet-mechanism tourniquets designed for broad pressure distribution, but they differ in band width and CoTCCC listing.
