ADVERTENCIA IMÁGENES GRÁFICAS: En noviembre de 2004, la revista Life nos envió a mí ya @by_johnnydwyer a la base estadounidense en Balad, Irak, para fotografiar a los soldados estadounidenses heridos que salían de la batalla de Faluya. Pasé 5 días allí con acceso a tropas heridas que nunca antes había visto o experimentado. Después de volar de regreso con los heridos a la base de EE. UU. en Ramstein, Alemania, y luego a EE. UU., archivé las fotos en la revista Life. Las retuvieron durante cuatro meses antes de transmitirme que nunca publicarían las imágenes porque, en pocas palabras, el editor en jefe no creía que el público estadounidense pudiera soportar verlas. Todas las tropas que fotografié saliendo de Faluya (en su mayoría infantes de marina) estaban orgullosas de ser fotografiadas para mostrar su servicio a su país. Las fotografías finalmente se publicaron en @nytmag.

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: In November 2004, Life Magazine sent me and @by_johnnydwyer to the US base in Balad, Iraq, to photograph wounded American soldiers coming out of the battle of Fallujah. I spent 5 days there with access to wounded troops I had never before seen or experienced. After flying back with the wounded to the US base in Ramstein, Germany, and then the US, I filed the pictures to Life Magazine. They held them for four months before relaying to me they would never publish the images because—in so many words—the editor in chief didn’t think the American public could handle seeing them. All the troops i photographed coming out of Fallujah (mostly marines) were proud to photographed to show their service to their country. The photographs were eventually published in the @nytmag.
